The rain came down heavily out of the stormy sky.

The coin was hidden in a small wooden box.

I have taken the pack of chicken into the kitchen.

We shall begin our trek across this barren terrain.

Everyone has a copy of the minutes and no-one is missing.

All the runners wanted to be winners in this race.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

She said she thought they were speaking a foreign language.

The foreigners are tourists who wish to see the sights.

We shall be opening a new chain of stores in this city.

Mr Brown asked the kids to stop yawning all the time.

EXERCISE 26(B)

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

We had plenty of exercise but our muscles were painful.

The judge felt he had to punish the thief severely.

I saw one red pansy among the yellow pansies.

Ken chose the ball that was the most bouncy.

They said that the clinic visit last week was quite painless.

The sheep began to panic when the dog ran into the field.

It was quite a tonic to meet with you in the club.

I was born in a Danish town in the far south.

They will burn the wood to make a large fire.

They will be turning the shed into a barn for the sheep.

We shall return to our home on the western coast.

In the class they will learn how to make modern clothes.

The field was full of ripe corn ready to be cut.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

I wish to buy some more yarn so I can begin to knit.

I have to darn the socks which are full of holes.

The flame on the gas burner was a blue colour.

He worked as a wood turner when he was younger.

All the tourists in that city seemed to be westerners.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

I am a keen learner of all the ways to write faster.

On the farm they were burning the stubble in the fields.

The leaves are now turning all shades of yellow and brown.

We are learning how to write things in a different way.

I shall rise early in the morning so that I can begin work.

The kids were yearning to open all the birthday presents.

EXERCISE 26(D)

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

She said it would be fine for me to phone her at eleven.

I often use hand cream to soften my skin.

We have had no rain and even the thin vine is turning brown.

I rose at seven and then began learning the words.

By eleven, I plan to finish seven pages of the manual.

The headmaster is going to assign us a new teacher.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

The sun is going to shine all day in the western zones.

John has now shown us how to use the machine.

I saw a tall man walking down the main road.

We shall remain in the main office until nine tonight.

None of these facts were known at the time.

We have one lone worker who wishes to earn extra.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

It says on the last line that loans take a month to process.

She told the boys not to lean on the broken iron door.

The old urn was bought by a quite stern young man.

Please arrange the apples and oranges in the brown bowl.

The minute they finish the lesson, the kids all vanish.

The chef began to bake some fancy cakes.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

The officer was thinking of fining the man in the delivery van.

All this heavy rain is softening the soil for the crops.

I will be phoning you about the loan at six this evening.

I am assigning you the task of thinning all the tree seedlings.

I have now put all the zoning marks on the map.

They will be manning the phones for the remaining hours.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

It was quite demeaning for them to be earning so little.

The sun is shining, now that the rain has finally stopped.

In this fine rain they will certainly be shunning the beach.

I will be machining a seam down the side of the coat.

I will also attach a lining which goes down to the hem.

They were leaning on the table as they were phoning home.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

In the town hall we saw a genuine Roman urn.

I am genuinely pleased that you now have that new post.

We shall pursue our aim of starting a new business.

Pursuant to your call today, we now have the papers ready.

They fired one hundred brown pots and bowls in the kiln.

I spoke to Mr Milne about coming down to visit next week.

His name is Ken but his teacher calls him Kenny.

At the farm I bought grain for the hen and a jar of honey.

EXERCISE 26(F)

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

I am writing some notes to add to what I have written.

In the storm they had trouble righting the yacht.

The tomatoes in the box were all rotten.

My daily routine was to rise at six every morning.

One woman was sitting and two women were waiting.

The best human is one who does humane things.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

Our general way of working has been to start quite early.

We are generally in the office Monday to Wednesday.

The prices of the goods are within our usual budget.

We lived in a town in the southern part of the county.

The town they used to live in was in the northern part.

It is my opinion that they will do a satisfactory job.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

He says it is a mechanical problem with the boiler.

They are quite mechanically minded so they will solve it.

We have had some large financial issues at the firm.

We believe that the firm is financially secure for now.

We are looking to our bank for extra finance.

The bank may be able to help us in our finances.

EXERCISE 26(G)

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

The men had been having problems with the machine.

We have been listening to the rain falling all day.

I have never been to visit that southern city.

This job pays more than my other one did.

This new machine is much better than the old one.

Her new house is much larger than the flat she was living in.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

The new phone was smaller than the one they sold.

Dan said that the pay was much higher than in his old job.

We are going to the club on our own for an hour.

You will have to finish writing the report on your own.

At last I will be buying a home of my own.

It will be mine as I will pay the whole cost.

Pitman's New Era Shorthand

He asked to be told what was going on in the office.

When I finish shopping, I will be going on to the club.

He told the staff to carry on working until five o’clock.

The people carried on walking along the main road.
